Digestive disorders can include celiac disease, Crohn’s, heartburn, IBS, and other chronic conditions.
Such gastrointestinal problems are common but without proper diagnosis, management, and treatment, they can worsen in such a way as to pose a severe threat on one’s overall wellbeing. Treatments and therapies vary by condition, but they should always come recommended by a medical professional.
- Constipation or other irregular bowel movements
- Stomach pain
- Stomach cramps
While these symptoms may not be indicative of a digestive disorder in and of itself, common reoccurrence may be a sign that you should visit us to go over your treatment options.
Leaky Gut Syndrome
GUT MICROBIOTA AND THE NEUROENDOCRINE SYSTEM
Originally printed here: The gut-brain axis is undeniable, but specific mechanisms of influence continue to be investigated. Specifically, the gut microbiota is now considered the body’s major neuroendocrine system, controlling body processes including the stress response and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
Back in the early 20th century, Nobel laureate, Ilya Metchnikoff, observed that the growth of cholera could be reduced by some microbes and enhanced by others. He proposed that commensal bacteria within the intestine could contribute to protection against this pathogen and alteration of the gut bacteria could prevent disease. In 2001, Nobel Prize winner Joshua Lederberg coined the term “microbiome”. The microbiome is the “ecological community of commensal, symbiotic and pathogenic microorganisms” that can be found on mucosal surfaces, including the eye, mouth, lungs, and the gut. Recent research reviews the connection between the microbiota and the neuroendocrine system.
We have not yet gotten to the point where we can identify specific bowel microbes and specific diseases. One study, however, has taken a step in that direction. It found that recolonization with wild type B. fragilis maintained resistance to experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, whereas reconstitution with polysaccharide A-deficient B. fragilis restored experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis susceptibility.

Anxiety is a common condition in sufferers of ADHD in children and adults. It can cause serious problems in the short- and long-term, affecting one’s physical and mental health. It can also cause complications over time. That’s why it’s always important to get a diagnosis as soon as possible to begin treatment.
At Rejuvenate Health, medicine is just one component of our approach to helping improve mental health. We believe in a holistic approach that sees patients as people, not just as patients who need to be treated. Through a wider understanding of the root causes of the problem, we are able to get to the heart of one’s issues and find longer-lasting solutions. This can include nutrition, physical therapy, or other forms of treatment to heal both the symptom, the sign, and the causes of one’s anxiety.
Conventional medicine is addressing cancer as an organ disease, in other words, when they give a diagnosis to a patient, it’s usually, you have a breast cancer or you have a prostate cancer, etcetera. Holistic medicine looks at cancer from a totally different point of view. Cancer is a systemic disease that happens in a certain organ.
The difference between these two points of views is very important because the way conventional medicine is looking at cancer is totally different than the way holistic medicine looks at cancer. If cancer is an organ disease, then we can remove the organ, we can remove the breast, we can remove the prostate, we cannot remover the liver but we can remove part of it. In other words, get the organ out, and if surgically it looks like the tumor was removed, the patient gets the news that, you are cured, obviously, depending on the staging of the organ disease, many times the patient is being told they need radiation therapy and chemotherapy on top of the surgery or instead of the surgery, if according to conventional medicine the cancer is “not operable” this type of approach completely negates or ignores the fact that all of us have cancer cells in our bodies every day of our lives.
According to holistic medicine, cancer is a multi-factorial disease, it depends on nutrition, lifestyle, detoxification, hormone balancing, energy availability, stress and emotional state. Therefore, unless we address all the items that I mentioned before, the likelihood of healing from cancer and prevention of cancer is quite remote. Let’s start with the fact that cancer is anaerobic, meaning it derives its energy not from oxidation, in other words, combining oxygen and carbon and thereby making “energy units” ATP which the body uses obviously to function. Cancer on the other hand uses fermentation which is anaerobic process that is able to create only 6 units of ATP per carbon molecule versus 36 units of ATP per carbon molecule in case of aerobic oxidation (“breathing air and using the oxygen to derive energy”)
Another important difference between cancer cells and regular cells is the fact that cancer cells can only metabolize sugar, whereas normal healthy cells can metabolize sugar, mineral acids and fatty acids. That is one of the reasons where in advanced cases of cancer, they should lose weight because since the energy making process in cancer cells is so much less effective, “a lot of material” is needed for it to survive and for it to proliferate. Once the cancer gets to an advanced state, it will actually make “the body convert muscle into sugar in other to feed the cancer cells”. Obviously, the lesson from the above statement is very, very clear, the more sugar we consume, the more fuel we give to the cancer, so one of the ways to prevent cancer is by eliminating sugar from our diet. Also, once diagnostic cancer is made, we definitely have to take sugar completely out of our diet. In fact, one of the best modalities to “start off the cancer” would be adopting a ketogenic lifestyle or ketogenic diet, which is based on mainly fat consumption. In fact, the ketogenic diet calls for 75% of calories per day, being delivered from fats, 25% from protein and 5% from carbs, which is to say that, the allowed carbs are mainly salads and berries. When we cut down the carbs consumption to only 5% of the daily calorie need, the body will consume any sugar reserves that it has, in form of glycogen, in about 2 weeks, after that it will convert to burning fats into fatty acids and then into ketones, ketones then can be “burned” by every cell in the body, including the brain and thereby deriving energy. The only cells that cannot metabolize ketones for energy are cancer cells.
So, common sense dictates to us that in other for us to cure cancer and/or prevent cancer, we definitely should consider ketogenic lifestyle.
Life and especially healthy life needs energy, the energy depends on what we eat, how we digest, how we assimilate and how we burn. The burning rates depends on two main hormones, one comes from the Thyroid in the form of T3 and T4 and the other one is coming from the Adrenal gland, the stress gland, mainly in the form of cortisol and of course other hormones which are important for other aspects of our metabolic rate.
Considering the fact that a lot of people are complaining of lack of energy, mainly because of under-active thyroid and under-active adrenal gland. When energy supply is down, all the systems of our body are going to experience shortage of energy, including the immune system. It is not difficult to understand that when the immune system does not have the amount of energy it needs, to protect ourselves, to identify cancer cells, to remove them, obviously the possibility of being diagnosed with clinical cancer is much higher.
It is well known that pollution has increased over the last 100 years many fold, the fact that we have now, over 100,000 chemicals in the environment is definitely contributing to inability and disruption of cellular functions and systems inefficiency especially the immune system. The body has five (5) elimination channels which are designed to take out the toxicity that we are exposed to, but also the by-products of metabolic rates. Those channels are the liver, the gut, the kidneys, the lungs and the skin. Obviously the largest of them is the skin and the liver and of course the kidneys are very important in elimination. The issue is that, for many of us, the elimination rate does not remove all the toxicity which is being created or exposed to on a daily basis. In other to address toxicity, there are a few simple ways, one of which is getting into an infrared sonar, as often as we can, in other to sweat those toxicities out of the system. If we are able to sit in a sonar for about 40 minutes at a temperature of 130 – 140, the sweat that we are making will eliminate a lot of chemical toxicity, that will invigorate our system across the board, especially the immune system. Also the infrared radiation is considered “a friendly radiation”, it penetrates deep into our body, cancer cells are heat sensitive and therefore are destroyed by heat and the toxins that are removed from our system will enable the body to function much more effectively and therefore eliminate cancer cells and stay healthy.
The other major organ of detoxification is the liver, the best way to detoxify the liver is using Coffee Enema. Coffee Enema is not used in order to address constipation, even though it can, the main purpose of coffee enema is help the liver “dump its toxicity into the gut” the coffee needs to be organic and the retention time should be about 15 minutes. It seems that the palmitic acid in the organic caffeinated coffee is one of the main substances that actually “opens the gate and allows the liver to detoxify”.
Stress is one of the major contributors to carb disease and stress. Even the NIH (National Institute of Health) states that 80% of our physical manifestation is due to stress. I encourage all my patients to do daily de-stress exercise and use various modalities to release their stress. Some of these modalities can be yoga, meditation, tai chi, chi gung, just taking time for yourself without cellphones, texting, engaging in any activity to puts a smile on your face, just for 45 minutes towards the end of the day will do a lot in other to release the stress and allow you to recycle and get ready for the next day.
Our bodies and our stress response are very resilient, if we routinely release the stresses that we have on a daily basis, the problem starts if these stress are not being released and we have a continuous stressful situation. That decreases the effectiveness of the immune system and thereby allows cancer cells to escape detection and destruction.
I tell all my patients that cancer is a lesson. When I say that to them, I see that their reaction is usually quiet but very significant they just nod their head in acknowledgement. So, when I ask them, what is your lesson? They usually say, I need to take care of myself. A lot of us tend to take care of everybody else, whether it be spouses, children, extended families, parents, friends, community, but when it comes to us, we really find out that we don’t have time for ourselves. Cancer is one of the ways that the body is sending a message to us, telling us, if we don’t change our ways, then the body is over, meaning we die.
The notion that cancer is non-curable or needs to go through radiation, chemotherapy in order to survive is totally wrong. We need to go back to understanding that the body is an incredible design that when given the necessary foundations for good health, it can absolutely heal itself.
I routinely recommend to my patients to read few books that will enlighten them as to the ability of the body to do miraculous things. One of the books I recommend is, Dying to be me by Anita Moorjani, another good book I recommend to my patients because it also teaches them tools that can help them with making different choices and therefore getting different results, that book is called, Being You, Changing the world by Doctor Dain Heer.
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Over the last 18 years in holistic medicine, I’ve seen the paradigm shift regarding the treatment of menopause and andropause, “male menopause”. The famous Premarin Provera study was released in 2003. Which showed clearly the increased risk for breast cancer and heart disease for women who were put on Premarin and Provera. To the point that the study was stopped before the conclusion, since the numbers showed categorically the increased risk for women who are taking these kind of hormones. When you look at Premarin and Provera, you realize that Premarin is an estrogen which is derived from pregnant horses, and does not belong in the human female. The Provera on the other hand, is a progesterone that is altered by the pharmaceutical companies so they can write a patent on it.
Women, on the other hand, are still very concerned about taking these drugs, and rightfully so. So when I see patients that need hormone support, they are convinced and afraid that any bioidentical, and they’re afraid and convinced that using hormone replacement therapy will pose risk of increased cancer and heart disease. It usually takes me quite a bit of explaining to do, to show them that using bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is totally different than using the prescription drugs that was meant, that were mentioned before. In fact, according to research that can be found in books like, “Stay Young and Sexy with Hormone Replacement Therapy,” by Doctor Jonathan Wright. It is evident then that women who take estrogen progesterone combination in correct manner and correct doses, will actually have less breast cancer and ovarian and uterine cancer than women who take no replacement at all. So the question comes to mind is, why the differences between bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and conventional pharmaceutical replacement therapy?
The answer is not complicated at all. Bio-identical hormones are the same as the ovaries have been producing before menopause in the female body. Estrogen being manufactured mainly the first 2 weeks of a cycle. Ovulation or carrying at day 14, causing an increase in production of progesterone to the point of having a ratio of progesterone 100, 200 times more than estrogen on day 24 of cycle. Supplying these hormones in menopause will be welcomed by the body, and will prevent premature aging, dementia, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, vaginal dryness, improved libido and help prevent depression. There are various ways to administer these bio-identical hormone. They can be administered via creams. They can be administered by mouth. They can be also delivered via sublingual troches and or subcutaneous pellets. The majority of my patients prefer the cream delivery modality, because it’s easy and convenient. It bypasses the liver because when we take hormones orally, they do pass the liver first, before they get to the receptors to cause their action. And therefore being removed to a certain degree. But when delivered through skin application, these hormones are being absorbed directly into the circulation. They go into the receptor sites, causing the action necessary. And then relieved or delivered, being removed from the system, rather by the liver.
That is not to say that some women will prefer – take it, the oral route. And they still can get excellent results, as long as we adjust the dose according to their individual needs. So the important point to take from that, is that no one dose fits all patients. It has to be individualized; mainly according to their clinical presentation. If you ask the question of what about synchronizing hormone replacement relying on blood tests? The answer to that is a bit complex. Because blood test results obviously serve a purpose. To see that we are not under delivering or over delivering the amount of hormones necessary for good physiological response. However, the pitfall of blood testing lies in the fact that the “normal’s,” are pretty wide. And since none of us take a baseline of hormones at the age of 20, it’s hard for us to determine what is normal for that specific person. So I like to look at blood tests as they correlate. As a broad guideline, but I mainly rely on patient’s clinical response. For instance, if they come in with the complaint of hot flashes, did the dose that I gave to the patient, Improves or eliminates completely the hot flashes. The same goes for vaginal dryness, low libido, muscle loss, abdominal weight gain etc. Other tests should be considered as a follow-up and safety for patients on bio-identical hormone replacement.
For instance, for women I recommend yearly ultrasound, vaginal ultrasounds to visualize the ovaries. Visualize the thickness of the lining of the endometrium to see that we are not overstimulating the growth of the endometrium. Yearly breast thermography, and yearly breast ultrasound, to ensure breast health. In practice, women – after educating themselves about the modality of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. The large majority will decide to take the hormone therapy, because they see and understand the benefits and would like to achieve the benefits. Like prevention osteoporosis, dementia, vaginal dryness, low libido, muscle loss etc. With correct application of these natural hormones and correct follow up at least on the early basis, ensures that women get the protection they need without exposing them to any increased risk for breast cancer and or heart disease. When it comes to male usage of bio-identical hormones, we need to consider the simple fact that men lose about 1 to 2% of testosterone level from the age of 25 – per year. So by the time a man reaches 50 or 60 years of age, we may be looking at 50 to 60% of loss of testosterone in that period of time. The loss of testosterone affects men’s health in a profound manner. It is the number 1 cause of men’s depression over the age of 50 is low testosterone level. Yet conventional medicine is very hesitant to give these men testosterone supplementation to address these issues. In fact, they very eagerly would give antidepressant prescription drug instead of prescribing a natural hormone to these patients.
The reason why testosterone is so important is for men’s state of mind is the fact that the male brain has more receptor sites for testosterone than the genitals. So in order for a man to feel effective in their life, productive, getting up in the morning and looking forward to their job and being productive, instead they feel like something is missing in their life. So when most men go to see their conventional doctor, and they request to have their testosterone level checked because they see the continuous commercials about “low T,” and they get the lab results, which fall between 200 to 1100. They are considered to be in a normal range. And again, the problem is that nobody checks males testosterone level at the young age of 20 or 30. So how do we know what is normal for that patient? Is 201 normal for a 60 or 50 year old male that most likely had a level of 1000 when they were 20 or 30? Other symptoms of low testosterone for males are low libido, loss of muscle mass, and erectile dysfunction. Also males will complain of decreased ability to perform at the gym. There are various ways to restore testosterone level to the aging male. Even though aging – quote unquote – is not exactly the adjective that I would like to use. Because I do have patients in my practice that are 30 and 40 years of age, who need testosterone supplementation. And I see this trend is going upwards.
One of the ways to deliver testosterone is via cream applied on a daily basis in the morning. The basic dose would be 100 milligrams per day. And then according to the clinical response, one would adjust that upwards if needed. Another way would be to deliver via injections. Injections can be done intramuscularly – IM, or subcutaneously into the fat tissue. The testosterone being delivered in that manner is testosterone cypionate usually. And it’s usually delivered once a week to avoid decrease of the testosterone by delivery to the point of being too low. Few patients will need a twice a week injections. Depending on their clinical response. I explain to my male patients that the first improvement they’re going to feel is usually an increase in their mood, in their ability to perform their job. Their libido is going to be next. And usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks to have actually a response to the erectile functionality of their sex life. Men who take testosterone replacement need to be followed up for the following items. We need to check their hematocrit, which means what is the ratio between the liquid part of the blood to the red blood cell part of the blood? And you would like to keep it below 50%. That means that the cell component, the red blood cell component of a volume of blood, would be less than 50%. The reason for that is that if it increases above 50% – the blood becomes more sluggish, and therefore decrease in movement. Increasing the possibility of having a blood clot. Also it increases the workload on the heart. Both of which are not desirable. I will say that about 10 to 20% of men experience increase in volume of red blood cells. And this is because testosterone simulates the bone marrow to make those red blood cells. And they need to go to the Red Cross about twice a year to donate a pint of blood, and that will take care of the problem. Another issue that needs to be followed is the level of estrogen. Some men will convert testosterone to estrogen in a higher in a higher manner than others. Higher testosterone will increase prostate size, increase men’s breast size, and also decrease libido. These men will need an aromatase inhibitor, and can be delivered as a natural product called chrysin. And or a prescription drug called anastrozole or arimidex.
So as you can see, for both men and women it is not too complicated to improve quality of life, slow down the aging process. It’s all a matter of the right education for the patients, so they can make a decision from knowledge and understanding, rather than from fear.
If you ask yourself a simple question, how many people do I know who are taking thyroid medications and/or are complaining about lack of energy? When you count the number of people that come to mind, you will be surprised to see how many of us are either taking medication for underactive thyroid or are complaining about lack of energy. Infact, in my practice, most patients complain that they have less energy than they used to, some of them are actually complaining that it interferes with their workday, their social encounters and they also add that they’ve seen few doctors, mainly endocrinologists who attempted to take care of this problem without success, it is true that under-active thyroid is the “new epidemic”, to the point that even Time magazine a few years back, dedicated the front page of its magazine to the so-called epidemic of hypothyroidism.
Another common problem that I find interviewing my patients is that, they were diagnosed with underactive thyroid, utilizing blood testing, they were put on medication, usually Synthroid, which is a synthetic T-4 medication, they got some improvement regarding their energy level, but shortly thereafter, they found themselves back in the same situation of lack of energy as before they started the treatment. The main problem that is causing this issue is linked to the fact that conventional medicine decides about how much thyroid support needs to be given to a patient by one parameter that is found in blood testing, that is TSH; Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, when you give thyroid hormone to a patient, the TSH which is a hormone being secreted by the Pituitary gland which controls the thyroid gland activity will decrease because it will sense that you have enough thyroid hormone on board.
Conventional medicine has decided “what are the normal levels of the TSH hormone”. In my experience, over the last 20 years, dealing with this issue from the holistic point of view, I found that patients who are clinically balanced, as far as the thyroid hormone is concerned will have lower than normal TSH. So the usual scenario that I see with my patients are the following; patients go to their endocrinologist, they have been diagnosed with under-active thyroid/hypothyroidism and they are being put on medication, they usually feel better and they are very happy about it, when they go back in 3 months for repeat blood test, the doctor is alarmed because the TSH is “too low”, the metered assumption is the patient is taking too much thyroid medication and most of the times, the doctor will decrease the amount of medication prescribed to that patient. As a result, the symptoms that the patients complained about to begin with which is mainly fatigue, depression, hair loss, weight gain, etcetera will definitely be an issue again.
Another problem that we find again in clinical medicine is that, not all patients are able to convert the inactive T-4 into active T-3 and therefore will not have the optimal results that they are expecting by taking T-4. So, the question is, what can we do in other to make sure that, number one, we diagnosed the patients correctly and number two, we treat them correctly, the answer is not complicated. First and foremost, “we miss a lot of patients who are actually presently with under-active thyroid” because their blood tests are not showing it, their TSH is normal, T-3 is within the normal range and so is T-4, that kind of lab testing results automatically excludes them from the possibility of having an issue with underactive thyroid.
The problem is that, in many cases, the doctor totally ignores multiple complaints that are directly related to under-active thyroid, for instance, weight gain, lack of energy, depression, hair loss, constipation, dry skin, irregular periods, infertility, feeling cold most of the time, cold extremities, lower body temperature, puffiness of the skin especially the upper arms and face, losing the outer of the brow and other symptoms that are at the hallmark of underactive thyroid.
Regardless of all these possible symptoms that patients present themselves with, if their blood test do not support the diagnosis of underactive thyroid, they will not be diagnosed as such and they will not be treated, they will be given other medications like antidepressants and variety of other medications that are supposed to address the symptoms, but none of them would be helping the main issue which is under-active thyroid. In my practice, when I diagnose any patient with under-active thyroid, the treatment plan is rather simple, obviously stated before, I support the adrenal gland, these are supplements that are supposed to help the gland produce more of the hormones that are needed but also in case of over-activity of the glands, there are supplementations designed to decrease the gland’s activity. In other words, these are called adaptogens which are certain herbs that help the gland function at its best, some patients would actually need adrenal glandular extract to help them with their energy needs and to function together with the thyroid in other to achieve optimal health. As for thyroid itself, I like to use natural desiccated thyroids, one of the commercial names are Armour thyroid or Nature-Throid or West-Throid. All these medications are made from animal’s thyroid gland and they contain 80% T-4 and 20% T-3. Many patients will do very well on these two combinations.
However, there are other patients that need more adjustments to their daily regimen because they are not achieving the right amount of energy they deserve. In that case, I usually add to the daily regiment, a T-3 supplementation since as we mentioned before, T-3 is a ready-made energy.
I assess every patient as being their own individual, with their individual needs, their metabolism, their dietary habits, etcetera and together we find out the exact amount of thyroid energy or supplementation they need and what kind of combination of these prescriptions, hence natural supplement each patient needs. The positive change in these patients lives is remarkable, the change occurs very rapidly within 2 weeks and they feel like “somebody put on the light for me”. Also, we need to be aware that the amount of medication or supplementations that each patient needs may change overtime and also we need to be upgrading the amount that they take periodically until we hit the sweet spot.
I also educate my patients as to their condition and offer them variety of books to read and articles to read, in other for them to understand exactly what is happening in their system and to empower them to understand that they actually know how much thyroid support that they need and if they pay attention to these needs, they will have the right amount of supplementation and prescription drugs as needed, in other to get them healthy, energetic and happy life
LEAKY GUT SYNDROME
If you ask a conventional doctor to explain to you what Leaky-Gut syndrome is, you most likely would get a “strange look”, meaning I really don’t know what you are talking about. However, if you do research about Leaky-Gut Syndrome, you will find an abundant amount of information regarding this syndrome.
So, the next question you may ask yourself is how come there is so much information about this syndrome, mainly in holistic literature and yet conventional doctors “refuse to either accept this reality or are not interested in understanding this reality” because there is really no prescription drug that can repair or correct the issues that cause this syndrome to begin with.
The easiest way to describe this syndrome is by understanding that the lining of the gut is the barrier between the outside world and the inside of our body, allowing foreign materials like food to be processed via gastric acid and digestive enzymes and the bile basically into the micronutrients which are the amino acids, fatty acids and sugars. Once the food is being digested into these basic molecules, then they are assimilated and absorbed into the circulation and therefore can be used for energy production and repair.
The absorption and assimilation process in the small intestine can be described as a very active process, in other words, when amino acids, fatty acids or sugars are flowing within the gut lumen, there is an active process by which the cells in the gut lining actually capture those molecules and bring them into the circulation.
In other to avoid any accidental entrance or access to molecules and/or bacteria that can cause inflammation and/or disease, the cells of the intestines are joined together in a very tight fashion and the junction in between those cells is a good effective barrier to prevent any unwanted molecules and/or bacteria from penetrating into the organism and therefore create disease. However, when incomplete digestions occur, due to lack of hydrochloric acids or insufficient amount of digestive enzymes or environment of bacteria which is not symbiotic to the human body, inflammation starts to develop within the cells of the lining of the gut. This inflammation, if allowed to last long enough, creates enlargement of this junction between the cells, creating very small gaps in between the cells, but large enough to allow molecules and/or bacteria to penetrate into the human body.
Obviously, the immune system recognizes these molecules and bacteria as foreign bodies and mount a defense mechanism or counter-defensive methods in other to protect the body. However, this defense mechanism is usually represented by local inflammation that is designed to kill any invader, the problem is that this local acute inflammation if not resolved becomes chronic inflammation, this chronic inflammation actually increases the gaps between the cells and therefore it is a catch 22 that continues to evolve and create more and more gaps and therefore increases the chance and the possibility for all these compounds that are not supposed to go inside the body to actually enter the circulation and therefore the body.
When we are talking about gaps between the various cells in the lumen; the intestinal lumen, we are talking about gaps that can be measured and seen only under an electron microscope, in other words, if a biopsy is being conducted of a small bowel just to see if there is any inflammation or any chronic disease, the regular light microscope is not going to be able to show that, because you need a much higher magnification to see those gaps being enlarged from a regular or healthy bio-cells.
So, the question that one may ask is, do I have Leaky-Gut Syndrome? The simple answer is that, all humans have Leaky-Gut Syndrome to one degree or another, any kind of symptoms that are associated with this syndrome are obviously related to the severity and the amount of gaps in between the cells. In other words, the larger the gaps, the more gaps we have, the more symptoms usually we are exhibiting.
The symptoms may range from minor, like inheritable bio-syndrome which can manifest itself with low indigestion, sometimes constipation, sometimes loose bowels, discomfort, up to very dilapidating diseases like Crohn’s disease and all sorts of Colitis.
So, how do we prevent and/or treat Leaky-Gut Syndrome? In other to prevent Leaky-Gut Syndrome or keep it at very low level, we need to start by eating the right foods or rather, eliminating foods that are inflammatory, for instance, all wheat, all gluten, diary, sugar, these are inflammatory foods that are actually contributing to causing the Leaky-Gut Syndrome to become more pronounced.
I usually offer my patients substitution to these three “forbidden foods”. Instead of having the multi-grained bread, I suggest to recourse to sprouted bread, even though sprouted bread may contain wheat, it is usually organic wheat and it looks like organic sprouted wheat, does not have the same inflammatory characteristics that regular non-organic wheat, which are usually close to chemicals like Round-Up.
Instead of regular pasta, I suggest my patients consume brown rice pasta or quinoa pasta, bean pasta etcetera. Instead of consuming regular diary, I suggest to move to goat milk products, more goat cheese, goat milk, which are apparently much more tolerable than the regular milk which is produced by corn-eating cows. Instead of consuming sugar, I recommended we used stevia, can use honey, organic agave.
Once we eliminate the foods that are inflammatory in their presentation, we need to also improve the digestions to an optimal condition. Usually it means, helping the digestion by taking hydrochloric acids, digestive enzymes and bile that actually help digest all the food that we consume into the micronutrients of amino acids, fatty acids and sugars.
The third component and maybe the most important one is the makeup of the bacterial environment within the gut. There are mainly 2 types of bacteria that reside in our guts; one belongs to the Saprophytic or Symbiotic bacteria that actually help us digest the food, make B Vitamins, Vitamin K and actually help us eliminate toxicity and we have the Pathogenic bacteria that actually consumes our food and create toxicity. Also, it is important to mention good yeast versus bad yeast, one of the members of the “good yeast” family is called sacromyeces [inaudible 14:40] and supporting the gut with the supplement actually help us keep the candida and other molds into a very small contingency that would not increase the Leaky-Gut Syndrome and endanger our health by exposing us to their toxicity and bye-products.
In addition to these items, I also recommend a variety of supplementations that are specifically designed to heal the gut, like DGL, Deglycyrrhized Licorice, another product is called IGG 2000 which stands for Immune Globulin G 2000. These globulins are designed to protect the gut barrier and by taking it as a supplement, they promote healing of the Leaky-Gut, in other words, closing of those spaces in between the cells and therefore sealing it again and preventing entrance of unwanted particles, molecules, bacteria, etcetera into the system.
I jokingly mentioned to my patients that fighting or repairing or preventing Leaky-Gut Syndrome is equivalent to a “lifetime achievement award” because the battle within our gut is continuous, 24/7 throughout our life, so it’s not enough to follow the guidelines that are just elucidated temporarily but rather do it continuously, on daily basis in other to avoid Leaky-Gut and/or repair the Leaky-Gut.
It’s important to note that “healthy gut” means healthy organism. We need to understand that Leaky-Gut and chronic inflammation is the leading cause for all chronic diseases, whether it be arthritis, whether it be heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer.
Over the last 18 years in holistic medicine, I have seen hundreds of patients improve their life significantly, from the brinks of severe and chronic dilapidation to a lifestyle that is no more and healthy. If you ask people if they heard about breast thermography, 9 out of 10 will say, “No,” they never did. In a way, it is surprising, since breast thermography has been around for the last 50 years. So how come so few people heard about it? The reason is simple, yet complicated. Breast thermography was introduced to the United States about 50 years ago with very rudimental type equipment. But the benefits of this modality was no compression and no radiation; the staples of breast mammography. Which is still today the standard of, the practice of medicine. So, what is breast thermography?
Every year in the United States, 1.6 million biopsies are being performed. 80% of them are negative. That means that 8 out 10 women should not have had a biopsy performed. When you take a minute to think about these statistics, it is really mind boggling why the use of thermography is so limited. The main argument that conventional medicine is using to justify mammography, is the fact that mammography is able to identify breast calcification, whereas ultrasound does not. Even though MRI can at times still identify anatomical changes that can be related to calcification. The “problem” with calcification is the following. The large majority of calcification are totally benign. Yet most radiologists would not dare call them normal. The usual report would read, “Calcifications are noted, most likely benign. BUT,” let’s put but in big letters. Biopsy should not be– Oh, a biopsy should be considered. This is one of the main reasons why so many biopsies are being performed and the reason that 80% of them are negative. So the question is – why are we at that state of affairs? The main reason is malpractice. If you think about it for a second, no doctors have been sued ever for performing an unnecessary biopsy. In fact, women are just so delighted to hear a negative– Negative results for a biopsy. And nobody actually stops and questions, “Hey, did I ever actually need this biopsy to be performed?” Yet, on the other hand – many physicians have been sued for not suggesting mammography. Thereby when you read any radiological report – in my humble opinion, it is meant to CYA – “cover your ass” type report. It is very easy for conventional medicine to put fear in patient’s hearts. And unfortunately, this is a major problem – in my opinion, with the way that conventional medicine addresses medicine today. Instead of educating patients, giving the resources to read about their condition – convention medicine is just testing and testing and doing procedure over procedure. And even then they say – well, but maybe they don’t realize that the fear that they instill in patients is so damaging and so destructive. Because stress is one of the major contributors to cancer and chronic disease.
Other studies were published in the last 15 years. One of them is a Canadian study. One of them is European study that showed that mammography does not increase patient’s life expectancy as far as breast cancer is concerned. However, the recommendation for breast mammography by conventional medicine is nothing short of a further religious belief. So, what are the benefits of breast thermography? Breast thermography allows the doctor to actually see what kind of risk factor any given patient has. And then actually advise the patient to use a preventative protocol to reduce the risk, and therefore prevent the disease. Yes! Breast cancer – like any other cancer, can be prevented, utilizing the right lifestyle, having the right hormone levels, the right digestion, the right emotional state, detoxification, etc.
Breast thermography shows physiological changes that are dependent on the temperature of the breast. These changes occur years before any anatomical changes are evident, and can be picked up by ultrasound and/or an MRI. Therefore – in my opinion, breast thermography is the best preventative tool to avoid cancer. Breast ultrasound – in my opinion, is an integral part of this examination. Because the ultrasound examination looks at the breast’s anatomical structure. Together with breast thermography, we are getting a physiological window and anatomical window into the state of the breast currently. We need to realize that not all breast thermographies are the same. It depends who is performing it, what their qualifications, who interpret the study. And most importantly, what kind of recommendations are being made as a result of the test report? The test needs to be done in a certain way. It has to be done in a temperature controlled room. Between 68 to 73 degrees Fahrenheit. A cold challenge test should be performed as part of this examination. Which utilizes putting the patient’s hands in water of 60 degrees for about a minute and/or allow them to hold an ice pack for about a minute. This creates a fight or flight response, which causes the sympathetic nervous system to get into gear and shunt or switch the blood supply from the breast to the brain and muscles. As a result, when we do the second batch of images, they will show a slight decrease in breast temperature. This is a good physiological response of a healthy breast. At times, especially when cancer is considered – the temperature would not go down. And sometimes actually we see a paradoxical increase as part sort of the 15:26 the breast.
So to summarize, a breast thermography – in my opinion, is the best way to prevent cancer because we have a window of opportunity to see what kind of risk factors we have. And to be diligent and aggressive in implementing the prevention protocol that I give to my patients. The whole idea is to actually get the thermographic image into a normal pattern. And therefore, avoid breast cancer altogether. The other benefits of the modality are obviously no pain due to compression and no radiation. For more information, you can call my office. Treatment for Peyronie’s Disease
Most recognizable as a curvature of the penis, Peyronie’s disease is caused by fibrous scar tissue that usually develops from some type of trauma. This scar tissue prevents elasticity when a penis is aroused and causes the bend, making intercourse impossible or painful.
